My Story

First of all I would like to give thanks to the Lord who has many outstanding plans for me until now. I received the mercy of God these past 9 years ago. During these times I have been learning many things from serving Christ. I felt like following in His way is not simple easy but life in the midst of Living God is awesome.

My official name is Udom Setthaya. All of my friends call me “Boy”. I am 31 years old. My hometown is Chiang Mai. I grew up in a non-Christian family. There are 4 people in my family; my mom, my dad (who is with the Lord already), my sister, and me. I got to know God while I was studying in my third year of university through Campus Crusade for Christ Missionaries who brought my life into this amazing story.

One day, it was so amazing how God had a plan for me to meet Him. While I was reading textbooks for my examination at my dormitory, I heard someone singing songs from somewhere. I listened to them. I could figure out these songs were coming from. It’s a church. I thought that one day I would like to go there to know what they were doing.

I had a close friend. Her name is Khim. She is Christian who is the one persuaded me to get close to God by attending cell groups, studying the Bible, being a part of church, etc. She told me many things about her testimony and Christian life.

I learned more and more about what Christianity is; sometime I joined Christian Camps, some times I helped my missionary friends translate both English and Thai to Thai students about how to receive God. I loved hanging out with my friends a lot. They showed their life to me to see how great they are caring about me. They helped me when I had problems. This was one reason that I decided to be a Christian.

I got saved at Thai Lanna Church in Chiang Mai. I went there every Sunday. Through brothers and sisters’ encouragements, I was growing up with God more and more every day.

God is great to me. He changed my parents to become Christians after me. In a good way, I still have some sad things in my life. My sister is Muslim, the same as her husband. I still keep praying for them that one day they will follow God.

The last semester of my fourth year in university, I had a chance to do an internship with YWAM as a volunteer translator. This job has taken all around Thailand, visiting churches and ministries. Being a blessing of the Lord to both Christians and non-Christians. I really love this job a lot. I committed to working for with outreach teams for 2 and half years.

In 2009 I was called to study DTS (Discipleship Training School). Our outreach was in Cambodia and some parts of Thailand for 5 months including lecture.

In 2013 I went to study IPHC (Introduction to Primary health Care) in South Africa, and my outreach was in Mozambique.

Currently now I am serving with YWAM San Francisco, working with RI (Restoration Initiative) ministry which dealin with homeless people.

Working with YWAM missionaries, it helped me to learn more about God that I couldn’t possibly express all in this letter because every step I took, I have found many things; happiness, sadness, cheerfulness, faithfulness, etc that were mixed up together. But one worthwhile thing that I got from God is “Peaceful” because He promises me He will be with me forever no matter what, who, or where I am.

Thanks be to the Lord.

Be a part of my journey
