Ministry with YWAM San Francisco
As you walk the streets of the Tenderloin, our inner-city neighborhood the diversity, rich culture and brokenness cry out. Latino, Yemeni, Vietnamese, Chinese and Indian immigrants, homeless men and women, drug addicts and refugees - all find their way just outside our doors. Many are hurting, others are isolated, and most of them are living in poverty
Hi, My name is Boy or Sam (Udom Setthaya). I am working with YWAM San Francisco through RI (Restoration Initiatives) Ministry. I am so glad that I could be a part of YWAM here for what they are doing for community. I have seen many great stories have happened here and encouraging me to serve the Lord here. Here below for what I am serving:
My role here is working with homeless people. I am serving with the Love of God. I am so glad that the Lord has placed me here with his purpose. God has been training me how to have a heart of father to serve people who have broken heart. There are many people who lose hope in their life here and they do not want to pursue their life any more. May heart is broken for these people.
My ministry here to help people to restore, and to direct them to the place where they should be. through our services, and courses, I could see many people get better life. They start to have hope in real. They can stand on their own feet and working. But the greatest thing, they got to know God.
Drop In Center
We call this Place is Ellis Room as the name of street. Every Monday - Friday from 9:30 - 12, we open our ministry to homeless people who can come to rest and use our facility. During this time, they can find spot to rest, play pool, use bathroom, talk, pray, make phone call, and giving out hygien kits.. If they would like us to help on refering to some place for their needs like; rehab, hospital, going back home, find job, and etc. And afternoo, there are varieties of activities.
Mailing
We do mailing to people here because it is very important to them as they don't have actual address. Over hundred clients use ourmailing here.
Mini Outreach
Every Monday afternoon, we go for outreach to reach out to people near by our place. Have conversation and be able to pray for them, and encourage them by the words of the Lord. Most of the time we want to connect people who we met during outreach to our ministry, so we can figure out how to help them to stand on their feet. And lead them to know God.
Hair Cuts
Every Wednesday morning, we give free haircuts. Through this ministry has change many people's life. People has no money to cut their hair. During hair cut, we can get to talk with them and get to know them more. It leads us to interacting and trusting. Some people comes before looking for job and interview. We are so glad that they got jobs afterward.
Showers
it's a part of Hygien, we open showers on every Thursday and Friday morning.
bible study
We are glad that we can rund bible study with homeless people. The words of God is very important, so people can know the truth and hope in Christ. Every Wednesday afternoon, we open for anyone who would like to participate in our study.
Cookies Ministry
About 6 months ago, I was looking to find something to do after ministry I work with. I went outside during night time to get to talk with homeless people. I found it's hard for me if I don't have something to offer them before having conversation. I pray and came up one idea, I should make cookies and hot chocolate. The Lord lead me, and I found it's easy for me to make conversation and get to know them more. If you would like to come to join my ministry sometime, I would be more than happy.
